Dog chasing laser light

A few weeks back I mentioned that one of those pen lasers is a great toy for dogs. My dogs go ABSOLUTELY NUTS chasing around the little red dot. Here is a video someone made of their boxer going around in circles chasing the light.

Hey its an easy way to get your dog some extra exercise!

You need to read the following link about obsessive behavior in dogs. I have a beutiful Beagle that loves to chase the laser light too. But she has gotten really close to obsessed about it so we are going to stop using it and do someting else to distract her form the light. Callie has gone so far as to stand and whine looking at the desk drawer that we keep the laser in. She learned what "light" meant after us only using it twice. I would urge caution and doing some investigation before continuing with this. Our vet told us of one dog that he treats that is completely mentally injured due to some kids that basically tortured the dog over a weekend when the parents were away. They had no idea of the affect. Please, don't "mess-up" a good dog.
Thanks.

Thanks for the tip. Well I limit the amount of time they play with the light, so I don't think its a problem. I mix this up with other activities.

Anyone who uses a light to stimulate a dog is insane. You are doing nothing, absolutely nothing other then creating a MASSIVE problem later in life.
DO NOT think for one minute that by 'mixing up' his training & stimuli that this is justification for using a light as a way of exercising/ stimulating your dog.
There is no polite way of saying this but you are an idiot if you do not listen to anyones warnings about playing with light - it is NOT HEALTHY

When our dog was a puppy we played with laser lights and thought it was great fun. Then I read an article about how cruel it actually can be. Dogs use all their senses to chase "prey". This is something they can only see, so they will make themselves crazy trying to get a grasp on what is is and catch it. Even though we stopped at a relatively young age, my dog has become VERY fixated on light reflections of any kind! Please do not play with laser lights with your dogs!
